Philosophy

The Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Jr. Knights Hockey Club was developed in 2005 to provide an opportunity for aspiring young athletes in northeastern PA to enjoy the sport of ice hockey in a safe, challenging, competitive, and educational environment. Our passion for this sport is demonstrated by the commitment of the coaches, administrators, parents and most importantly our players on a daily basis in and out of the rinks.

The Jr. Knights Hockey Club’s strength lies within the development of our hockey players through the use of professional coaches at every level. At four years of age, our players are on the ice learning from certified coaches that played at a junior, prep, college, or pro level. Bringing high level training methods to athletes at a young age to secure proper teaching of fundamental skills is our main concern.

Our development model includes a Hockey Director and Hockey Development Coordinators to oversee the progress of each player and team from 4 to 16 years of age. With educated coaches in place during key developmental years, our players will be drilled to learn fundamental hockey skills (skating, stick-handling, passing, shooting), proper decision making techniques, and physical development while maintaining an emphasis on team play.

We are dedicated to teaching these skills during our in-season training program, which includes 2-3 practices and 1-2 games per week (average). Our teams will also travel to compete in 3 – 5 tournaments per season, where they will have the opportunity to win some hardware.

The end goal of the Jr. Knights Hockey Club is not only to provide players the opportunity to compete at a higher level throughout youth hockey, but to open doors for players and access outlets beyond local youth hockey such as prep school, junior, college, and even professional hockey. Along with such great athletic opportunities, the most important mission for each hockey player remains to be personal and emotion awareness, growth, and a feeling of success.

We look forward to welcoming your family into the culture of hockey here in the northeast where our focus is on the four pillars of Knights hockey: Character, Academics, Athletics, and Community.
